The Courses

All the courses include the areas of learning, awareness and experience outlined below. The only exception is that the three day courses do not include a sweatlodge due to time restrictions.

Bushcraft:
learn these ancient skills and technologies which allow us to break down the barriers that keep us separate from nature. Make wild fire by friction, build and sleep in a shelter made out of the forest herself, and learn to identify and make use of the trees and plants which provide for us in hundreds of ways from cordage, tools toothbrushes, and glue. These skills and knowledge deeply enrich our experience but also give us a grounding in the practical aspects of living in and feeling comfortable in the woods.

Edible and medicinal plants:
eat from the abundant harvest of the woods as we identify wild foods which enable us to survive in the wild or to enhance your kitchen table all year round from the parks, gardens, woods and hedges. Harvesting the earth as your natural pharmacy is empowering, as you become able to treat and heal yourself from the leaves, bark, flowers, mushrooms, roots, and buds surrounding you.

Bird Language:
Birds can tell you what the weather will be like in ten minutes or in an hour; whether it will be a harsh winter, an early spring? Once you learn bird language you can tell of the far off movement of animals and people without seeing or hearing them. We also learn to identify them through sight and songs, as well as experiencing the wonder of the dawn chorus.

Nature Awareness:
Through nature awareness techniques such as stalking, meditation and camouflage we gain the ability to move silently and
unseen through the forest, to become part of ones surroundings and invisible to animals, enabling us to come into closer contact with them.

Sweat Lodge:
This is an ancient and timeless opportunity to create a profound shift in your relationship to yourself and the land. On a simple
physical level, the sweat lodge is cleansing and restorative; an opportunity to purify, rejuvenate and heal ourselves. It can often be a deeply enriching and transformative experience.

No experience or knowledge is necessary for these camps, just an enthusiasm to explore the mystery of the wildwood, to read the language of nature and to deepen your understanding of your part in it.

They are held in semi-ancient woodland running through two hidden valleys in an area of deepest Devon rich in bio-diversity and teeming with life.
